Day 1Arrive Delhi
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel.The rest of the day is at leisure to explore India’s capital city, a treasure trove that reveals the ultimate combination of tradition and trends.
Day 2Delhi
Take part in a full day sightseeing tour of Delhi and visit Red Fort with its marble palaces and grand audience chamber. Opposite the fort are the black and white onion dome and minarets of the Jama Masjid, the most elegant mosque in India. Drive past Kotla Firoze Shah and visit Raj Ghat, where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in 1948. After lunch continue on to the imposing India Gate, the residence of the President – the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Parliament House and other government buildings. Visit Humayun’s Tomb – the first great example of a new and distinctive style and the Qutab Minar (Tower of Victory).
Day 3Delhi & Agra
Today journey on to Agra and after an afternoon arrival explore the city. Visit the world famous Taj Mahal – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and architectural masterpiece constructed entirely out of white marble. Shah Jahan, the Taj’s creator, spent the last years of his life imprisoned at the fort by his son Aurangzeb. It was built in the late 1560s by their predecessor, Akbar, with later embellishments by Jehangir, his son, and Shah Jahan, his grandson.
Day 4Agra & Jaipur
Drive to Jaipur and en route visit Fatehpur Sikri. This deserted red sandstone city was built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital in the late 16th
century. It was the Mughal capital for 14 years after which it was abandoned due to paucity of water. Even to this day, the entrance to the fort is through the road that Akbar built which leads to the Buland Darwaza, a huge 54 metre gateway. Other inspiring monuments in Fatehpur Sikri are the Hiran Minar that Akbar built in memory of his favourite elephant, Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti, Birbal’s House and the Diwan-i-Khas.
Day 5Jaipur
Visit the fabulous Amber Fort. En route halt for a photo stop at the intriguing red sandstone Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). Crowning the crest of a hill, the Fort offers a view of Maota Lake and the historic old town located at the base of the hill, which formed the early seat of the Amber kings before the fort was made their capital. In the afternoon explore the exquisite City Palace, a synthesis of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles, consisting of an overwhelming complex of exquisite palaces. Also visit the awe inspiring Jantar Mantar Observatory, a stone astrological and astronomical wonder built by Maharaja Jai Singh in the 18th century.
Day 6Depart Jaipur
Depart Jaipur for your onward flight.
